Client Testimonials

Gabriella Spring
John Sutton
Louise Maxwell

"It was here, that I walked into that church – desperate, and knowing that something had to change but self-resigned to the fact I might just die the way I was.  Either way seemed acceptable as the thought of staying the same was no longer a life I could live.  It was, in my strong belief, the hand of God that guided me through the next few weeks and found me in a detox, with pancreatitis and an enlarged liver, on a journey that would take ten days before I was stable enough to transfer to a residential treatment facility.  I was broken – but more importantly– I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. "

"I am continuing my fight, and as long as I am alive and in recovery, my story is a story of hope and I am fighting the stigma that keeps me locked in shame. I'm done waiting for this fight to be over. I'm ready to surrender and see my journey of recovery as just that--a journey, not a destination that I will arrive at some day. I no longer have to live in the grips of a disease that will kill me (and yes, it will kill me- heroin is killing people, pills are killing people, ADDICTION is killing people every day) and can instead embrace my beautiful struggle sober. "

“My goal in life wasn't living...it was getting high. I was falling in a downward spiral towards a point of no return. Over the years, I turned to cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol under a false belief it would allow me to escape my problems. It just made things worse. I had everything: a good job, money, a loving family, yet I felt so empty inside. As if I had nothing. Over twenty years of using, I kept saying to myself: 'I’m going to stop permanently after using this last time.' It never happened. There were even moments I had thought of giving up on life.”

The names in these Testimonials have been changed but the stories are still the same.

You Matter Prevention Classes

These classes help prevent teens and young adults from the dangers of alcoholism and drug addiction. We want to make sure people are informed prior to making these decisions. The classes will be required by the State of Tennessee. At the age of 14, adolescents are required to attend the class two to three times a week for one hour to receive credit and must attend for two months. They will learn how drugs and alcohol can mentally and physically affect them, what each drug is, and how to drink in small amounts after the legal drinking age of 21. As a non-profit organization, we provide these free classes in order to encourage this wide-spread knowledge.

Reasons many teens and young adults get involved with drugs and alcohol are based on:

  • Curiosity: They want to know what it feels like to be drunk, intoxicated, and/or high.

  • Peer pressure: Their friends are doing it or forcing them to do the same.

  • Acceptance: Their parents or role models are doing it and they want to feel accepted by those they look up to.

  • Defiance: They want to rebel against rules placed on them.

  • Risk-taking behaviors: They desire to break through their comfort zone

  • Boredom: They feel there is nothing to do, and trying drugs and/or alcohol gives them a thrill feeling.

  • Independence: They want to make their own decisions and assert their rights.

  • Escapism: They hope to escape their harsh realities.
